The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in Pictures.
We Are All Born Free is a book created by Amnesty International to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I wish it was given to every child the moment they are born and I believe that this is the book that should be included in every baby box in Scotland instead of the black and white picture book but I digress... It is a simple book with one purpose, to teach children that every single one of them born on this planet has rights. These are their rights as laid out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Each of the thirty articles are simplified and easy to understand for children of all ages making it the perfect family book for bedtimes and rainy days. All the articles are illustrated by a different internationally renowned artist including Axel Scheffler and Debi Gliori making it a joy to look at as well as a joy to read.
I truly believe Vivienne and Ophelia's book selection to be one of the most important jobs that I do as a mother. When we read together it's one of the only times I have their full attention. They are listening to me so completely that I make sure the words they are hearing and the pictures they are drinking in are important, empowering and moulding them into the humans I want them to be.
All proceeds from the sale of this book is donated to Amnesty International to continue to fund the incredibly important work that they do. You get a precious, beautifully written and illustrated book to read to your children while supporting a great cause at the same time. Perfection.
